What each provider says its figure includes

Practice Plus Group
States that the quote given is the amount you pay, listing private consultation and consultant fees from start to finish, a pre-operative nurse review, prescriptions, dressings and equipment, anaesthetic, any overnight stay required, physiotherapy and pathology needed while admitted, and any post-operative appointments required. It also states that diagnostic tests arising from your initial consultation carry a charge.
Benenden Hospital
States that the knee replacement price is inclusive of an X-ray of the relevant part of your body excluding MRI, the surgery, a private en-suite room and a follow-up consultation. Its guide prices are defined as an indication of the minimum cost, not a guaranteed figure. It also publishes an orthopaedic price match promise against an identical hip or knee replacement at another private hospital within 30 miles.
Spire
Publishes a treatment price and a larger total package price. Its treatment definition covers pre-assessment tests, the treatment, consultant and anaesthetist fees, nursing care, medication and food during your stay and any standard prosthesis, with aftercare covering post-discharge consultations and physiotherapy up to a stated number, stitch removal, dressing changes and medication for up to 14 days after you leave.

One provider's published comparison

Practice Plus Group publishes a price comparison of its own, marked correct as at June 2026, listing knee replacement at £13,799 for its Emersons Green hospital against £15,418 at Spire Bristol, £15,985 at Circle Bath and £14,995 at Nuffield Taunton. That is a provider publishing figures about its competitors, so read it as their claim rather than an independent survey. It is included here because it is published, and because it shows the spread inside a single region.

Costs that commonly fall outside the headline number

  • The first consultation and any imaging that follows it. Practice Plus Group publishes a £145 initial consultation and is explicit that resulting diagnostic tests are charged separately.
  • Rehabilitation after discharge. The NHS says recovery can take several months or longer and involves a home exercise programme, so ask how many physiotherapy sessions are inside the price.
  • The implant and the technique. Benenden publishes robot-assisted replacement roughly £2,800 above its standard total, so confirm which technique a quote assumes.
  • The second knee. Where both knees need doing, ask whether that is priced as two procedures, and what the interval between them would be.

This page compares published prices. It does not advise on whether you should have a knee replaced, when, or with which implant. The NHS lists several non-surgical treatments normally tried first, and those are set out on our NHS page.

Questions, answered directly

How much is a private knee replacement in the UK?

Published figures read on 15 August 2026: Practice Plus Group lists a fixed £13,799 for knee replacement surgery, Benenden Hospital lists a standard total replacement from £14,781, and Spire Bushey Hospital lists from £16,637 for treatment or from £16,886 for the total package. These are those providers' own published prices, not a market average.

Is physiotherapy included in a private knee replacement price?

It depends on the provider and how they word it. Practice Plus Group's fixed price covers physiotherapy needed while you are admitted and any post-operative appointments required. Spire's aftercare covers physiotherapy visits up to the number stated in your treatment letter. Ask for the number of sessions in writing, because NHS guidance describes recovery taking several months.
